Moses speaks to the people

These are the words that Moses spoke to all the Israelites.[a] They were together in the desert on the east side of the Jordan River. This is in the Jordan Valley near Suph. It is between the towns called Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab. (It is a journey of 11 days from Sinai to Kadesh-Barnea, along the road past Mount Seir.)[b]

  1. 1:1 These people are the children of the Israelites who left Egypt. They were born while their parents travelled in the desert.
  2. 1:2 The journey from Sinai should only have been 11 days. The Israelites had travelled through the desert for 40 years because they did not trust God.
